The popularity of these dual Prenzlauerberg wine bars rides on its honor system which has drinkers securing a wine glass for an initial two Euros then helping themselves, buffet-style, throughout the evening with a serviceable range of red, white and the occasional rosé. Only after glass after glass is enjoyed do patrons plunk down money for their drinks—the cost of which is determined not by the waiters (there are none), but the patrons themselves. Starting every day at 20:00, it’s pay as you wish!

A novel concept, indeed, though perhaps not entirely unheard of in a city where U-Bahn riders hop onto trains with not a turn-style in sight. With a hodgepodge of retro furniture, wooden benches and tasty antipasti and snacks, expect to be guzzling amongst on-the-cheap Uni students and tourists who prefer taking the budget drinking outside of the hostel.Quote_gray
