Shir Khan has been a record collector since the age of 10. His taste is varied and goes from obscure to pop, disco, left field, electro and hip hop.
Since 2008 he has hosted a weekly radio show at Fritz (Tuesdays from 20:00-22:00) on which he shares his thoughts on modern club music. In 2007 he set up a small label, Exploited Records. Musically and visually, Exploited is meant to deconstruct pop music. Each album produced is a sort of “best of pop”: Kim Wilde, Donna Summer, Madonna, Nico, Grace Jones—all of which get mixed up and marked with an “exploited” okay. Exploited Records plays with a spectrum ranging from disco to rave, from electro to hip hop: Adam Sky from London and Siriusmo from Berlin are the main protagonists on the label.
Shir Khan DJs parties in Berlin in venues such as Cookies, Picknick, Scala and Villa under the name, Berlin Battery, which also is a blog he hosts with two friends.
Right on my corner and always a good assortment. I buy lots of different sounding vinyl here that I often feature on my weekly radio show on Fritz.
Always totally booked, but for a good reason—this place is excellent. Reserving a table is sensible. I chill with my homies and business-dudes here. Absolutely my favorite Japanese restaurant.
Apart from Wohnzimmerbar, this is my favorite bar in Prenzlauer Berg. My favorite thing to drink here is a Aperol sour. The DJ doesn’t play a club-set and the ambiance is great.
Kreuzberg has Videodrom. In P-Berg there is Negativland. I would like to think that my entire film education is due to the existence of this shop.
My block, my state of mind…’nuff said! The ping pong betting in the summer and Wolfi’s constant shouting.
