It’s near obligatory for every stage director to try his/her hand at Hamlet. Thomas Ostermaier takes to the task with one of Schaubuehne’s renowned actors, Lars Eidinger, celebrated for an absolute and unerring commitment to his roles. Hamlet’s psychological decay and growing paranoia is immediately understandable in Eidinger’s acute rendition of the masterpiece.
Jan Pappelbaum’s stunning stage design and the fascinating use of video supports the intense production, forcing the audience to focus on the events from the first scene and how they play out through the following acts.
