Berghain is what Berlin is all about: a brilliantly insane club of clubs for the all-out hardcore, take-no-prisoner party animals. Here, you can expect to find a beat thirsty crowd made up of sweaty masses of leather-clad gays, students, business men and average Joes both young and old all swinging their bodies around to the tinnitus inducing techno that pounds out of the lethal Funktion One sound system long into the early hours.
Possibly due to the recent rise in the ‘EasyJet’ clubbing craze—Berlin is probably one of the only cities in the world where it’s even possible to save your accommodation money in favor of staying out all night in the clubs—it also has a notoriously strict door-policy run by the mean looking crew of tattooed doormen. Quite what their selection policy is based on is anyone’s guess, so prepare to be turned away for no apparent reason—it’s happened to us all—and don’t forget to check your camera at the door.
This massive industrial-style warehouse embodies the city wide spirit of hedonism. On Saturdays, the most popular night, you’ll want to show up as early as possible. Those trying to be fashionably late will no doubt find themselves waiting outside for anything up to an hour.
Panoramabar—Berghain’s more bar-styled space—is also located on the top floor.
