Architect Hans Poelzig designed the Kino Babylon and the surrounding apartment houses in an atmosphere of refined Expressionism as part of a 1920s project to revitalize the area surrounding today’s Rosa Luxemburg Platz.

The cinema’s sleek lines provide an architectonic lens, amplifying the pleasure of the moviegoer without overwhelming the actual film. Today the Babylon’s three cinemas screen film from around the world, hosting festivals and special programs to fit every taste: from contemporary first-run, animated, and independent works to Sixties B-movie trash and cult cinema.

If you’re seeking the Golden Age of Cinema you’ll find it here, as they still boast the original pipe organ used to accompany the silent films that flickered across its silver screen upon its inauguration in 1929.Quote_transparent
