Understanding the Kennedy Family and their international effect is not easy to comprehend without knowing their special relationship to the media. The Kennedys understood the meanings of foto and later film fast. The shown and well-known pictures have become part of an international remembrance. They show – with many other personal objects – the private and politic life of Americas Royal Family: Their successes, their strokes of fate, their social commitment and their liberal politics. There are not many places, that have such a special meaning for the Kennedys. At his reception in Berlin, John F. Kennedy said “We’ll never have another day like this one as long as we live”.

Not far from the museum, on the other side of Brandeburger Tor, the former President saw the Berlin Wall for the first time after it was built two years prior. And this is also where he changed his prepared speech and said the famous words “Ich bin ein Berliner”.Quote_gray

Fit for a President A look back at Berlin's Presidential moments

The Kennedy Museum is the only museum in Berlin dedicated solely to a former U.S. President. John F. Kennedy was coined 'Camelot' in reference to the thousand days that this 'Democratic Prince' spent in the White House. The 35th U.S. President left such an impressionable mark on Berliners not only for his liberal politics and for for being the first Irish president, but for his declaration of Berlin as the symbol of free men everywhere. As such, the Kennedys will always have a special place in Berlin, from JFK's infamous 1963 speech to the street named in his honor to their lasting resonance in foreign politics today.
