A jack of all art trades, Wilhelm Schürmann can only be described as the sum of all his art parts. A professor of photography at the University of Applied Sciences, Aachen, a collector, a curator, a photographer and owner of the Berlin art space, Schürmann Berlin, which houses his collection, Schürmann began his collecting adventure in 1955 with the purchase of a Josef Sudek work.

When they are not off curating international exhibitions or promoting Berlin’s premiere art fair, Art Forum Berlin, Schürmann and his wife Gaby commute between their house in Aachen and their Berlin, David Adjaye-designed home.

He may have a penchant for photography, but the collection is diverse, and Schürmann’s affinity for Martin Kippenberger, Nairy Baghramian and Franz West is abundantly clear.Quote_transparent
