1933. The Nazis burned more than 20,000 books on this plaza. Books written by Jews, Communists and others, including Marx, Freud, the Manns, Kästner and Heine burned in a large pyre.
The monument designed by the Israeli artist Micha Ulmann is a small window set into the ground, through which you can see empty bookshelves. Don’t miss it in this pretty large square.
Maybe one of the most impressive and artistic memorials in Berlin.
