Located in a former doctor’s office above Kaisers on Kottbusser Tor, West Germany has become a regular pit stop on the European tour circuit for a whole host of underground acts.
Its ubiquitous name does nothing to assuage the difficulty in finding the venue. You enter via criminally well-concealed door that might as well be the entrance to a block of flats.
It doesn’t get much better inside. The once-tiled walls and floor are chipped and battered, subject to constant abuse from the harsh sound system—which, like the air conditioning, has likely seen better days. Your only escape is on the dank but nonetheless stunning balcony.
