German cuisine may not be as sophisticated as many of its European neighbors, but they do one thing well: basic comfort food. The crown jewel of German comfort food is spätzle, a Swabian egg-based pasta, often served as an accompaniment to meat dishes or on its own. And at the kiosk-like Spätzle Express, you guessed it, spätzle is king.

While they serve other German classics like maultaschen (German soup dumplings), schupfnudeln (potato-based thick noodles) and of course classic potato dishes, you can’t go wrong with their spätzle. For those less daring, try the mushroom or spinach spätzle with cheese baked on top, a glorified mac ‘n cheese if there ever was one. If you want more German flavors, order the spätzle fried up with sauerkraut and speck (German bacon). Of course the most German of them all is the spätzle fried with lentils, vegetables and overlain with two long wursts. All we’ve got to say: lecker schmecker!Quote_gray
