Henne exudes old Berlin charm. From the minute you walk into the restaurant, you want to stay the night. With a dark interior, aged from years of cigarette smoke and chicken grease, Henne has a menu that is appropriately German and to the point. They serve four items: milk-fried chicken, potato salad, kraut salad and bouletten—all of which come highly recommended.

Not only does Henne have food and ambiance on its side, it has history as well. When JFK visited Berlin in 1963, he had a good old shot ‘n a beer at Henne. And a few years later, when the Wall was built, it curved directly in front of the Gasthaus, but still allowed enough room for the fortunate West Berliners to enter the dining establishment and dine on their outdoor patio with a historic view.

The best way to end an evening here is with a few shots of their old Berlin specialty drinks. Our recomendations: Getreidekümmel and the cinnamon liqueur.
