The Temporäre Kunsthalle Berlin is a brand new temporary art space situated on Schlossplatz, directly in front of the now demolished former Palast der Republik. The space is dedicated to focusing on contemporary positions in art that are coming out of Berlin.

The space is rather modest—600 square meters—but the founders envisage that the exterior (1,680 square meters) will act as an exhibition surface as well. The first exterior project was carried out by Austrian artist Gerwald Rockenschaub, who works in Berlin, which presents a digitized cloudscape and was constructed in close communication with the architect, Adolf Krischanitz.

The Kunsthalle, which will stand for two years, hosts four exterior projects and eight exhibitions in the interior space. Starting off the series is Candice Breitz, a South African video artist working in Berlin. Other artists whose work will be exhibited include: Simon Starling, Katharina Grosse, Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla.Quote_transparent
