“A rug is the most liberal form of creating a space in a space without erecting obstacles,” says designer Jürgen Dahlmanns, the architect who founded Rugstar in 2003 after quitting his job as project manager of the Museumsquartier in Vienna and returning to his native Berlin.

All rugs are designed in Berlin and produced in a single workshop in the Bhaktapur region of Nepal. The rugs fuse traditional handcraft manufacturing techniques with contemporary aesthetic exercises in pattern, color and material. Dahlmann creates an array of rugs as diverse in theme and character as people.

In the belief that unbalanced social structures are displayed in the disharmony of the knots on the backside of a rug, all products and working conditions are controlled to maintain high standards, with Dahlmann visiting the workshop twice a year. While these rugs are more expensive than others, consider that each one is a unique piece of art and well worth the small investment.Quote_gray
