Most Berliners need to leave Berlin fairly often to remind themselves of how much they actually love the city. For those of us who are strapped for cash and time (or just love Berlin as is), the Turkish market acts as a stand-in for that trip to southern Europe we have been planning for so long. When exiting the U-Bahn at Schönleinstrasse, you enter a whirlwind of bargaining, vegetable mongers shouting out their best deals, piles of fresh breads and sweets, and women boiling fresh corn for you to enjoy as you stroll (or, more accurately, squeeze) through the market.

Shopping here can sometimes cause anxiety, with all the yelling, children running every which way, and the pressure to find the best veggies and humus. After you’ve come a number of times, you find your favorite vendors and decide which cheap fabric stand in worthy of investing in.

Perfect for grocery shopping or just grab a few things for a picnic on the canal.Quote_transparent
