The entire complex legacy of German cinema held under one roof – from the first moving images to digital film. The Deutsche Kinemathek presents a slew of significant collections on film history in the Filmhaus at Potsdamer Platz.
In addition, the Deutsche Kinemathek annually orchestrates the Retrospective section of the Berlinale, as well as hosting special film series, exhibitions, colloquiums and other events.
Their permanent exhibition treats “A journey through film history: from the pioneering years, to silent-film divas and the films of the Weimar Republic; from cinema under National Socialism, exile in Hollywood to the post-war years and contemporary cinema; and at the heart of the exhibition: Marlene Dietrich.”
The tour concludes with a stroll through “Artificial Worlds”.
You can also catch the Permanent Exhibition on Television, which completes the profile of the Filmhaus, making it a comprehensive “house of moving images”.
Visitors experience great moments in broadcasting history, and learn how the medium film developed in East and West Germany.
