Founded in the early ‘80s with spaces in Cologne and Stuttgart, Galerie Max Hetzler has always had a penchant for innovative German artists—Albert Oehlen, Martin Kippenberger and Thomas Struth, to name a few—and cutting-edge international names including Jeff Koons, Larry Clark and Sarah Morris.

Moving to Berlin in the mid-’90s, the gallery has established itself as one of the city’s best white cubes.

In 2007 the gallery opened a pilot project space in Berlin-Wedding called Max Hetzler Temporary. Located in a expansive warehouse-like space, the space usually rotates shows bi-annually, allowing artists more freedom and the ability to create site-specific work. In mid-2009, the gallery moved out of its Zimmerstrasse digs and moved into their temporary space permanently.Quote_transparent
