ILLUSTRATIVE, the unique art festival for contemporary illustration and graphics, is returning to Berlin in October, 2009. After successful shows in Paris and Zurich, Illustrative 2009 will celebrate the cutting-edge developments in today’s illustrative and graphic art.

After the first exhibition in 2006, Illustrative has quickly become the most important platform for current graphic arts worldwide. With more than 60 international artists, Illustrative presents an Illustrative, the unique art festival for contemporary illustration and graphics, is returning to Berlin in 2009. After successful shows in Paris and Zurich, the 5th Illustrative celebrates the cutting edge developments in today’s illustrative and graphic art.
After the first exhibition three years ago, Illustrative has quickly become the most important platform for current graphic arts worldwide. With more than 60 international artists, Illustrative presents an inspiring cornucopia of visual contemporary culture. Fine artwork from renowned illustrators and graphic designers forms the heart of the exhibition.

Drawing, graphic prints, painting and monumental murals, graphically inspired 3D-installations, book art and animation are all celebrated at Illustrative.
An extensive festival programme accompanies the show, including a one-day conference, the “Portfolio Reviews” event and satellite exhibitions as the “Illustrative Degree Shows” in the IMA Design Village in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
Also, the winners of the “Swatch Young Illustrators Award” will be announced. The prize annually awards outstanding new talent and encourages illustratrors and graphic designers in their art practice.

The shortlisted artworks, handpicked by an internatinoal jury, will be exhibited in a section of Illustrative. Workshops and live paintings complete the programme.
Estrablished in Berlin in 2006, Illustrative has been held twice in Berlin (2006/2007), once in Paris (2007), and once in Zürich (2008). To guarantee the topicality of the exhibition, before every Illustrative the art works are reconsidered by a cruatorial committee lead by Berlin-base curator Pascal Johanssen.
