The Dry Guillotine Festival is perhaps Berlin’s official welcome of the Paris-based label Ed Banger. While Ed Banger has been sending scores of cool-approved artists across the border for years, this three-day electro extravaganza represents the créme de la créme of the names who’ve won the hearts of many Berliners. And of those who think that gold lamé leggings are suitable pants.
Ed Banger founder Pedro Winter, or Busy P as he is known in the DJ circuit, has always had a highly attuned ear for challenging music with enough pop twist potential to become legitimate world-wide phenomena. His career is the stuff that aspiring A&R reps dream of: At age 21, Winter began managing now legendary group Daft Punk. After 12 years, the two parted ways, and Winter channeled his energy into starting the Ed Banger label, championing über-popular acts like Justice who exploded on the music scene, selling electronic dance albums like crack.
Ed Banger is only five years old and Winter, an astonishingly young 33. With other red-hot DJs and acts like SebastiAn, Uffie, Krazy Baldhead, DJ Mehdi, Mr Oizo, Mr Flash, Vicarious Bliss, So Me, Feadz, DSL, Mickey Moonlight, the Ed Banger empire is only just now popping off.
