As part of the current exhibition Farbwerte – SchwarzRotGold, the curators present a screening of Marc Thümmler’s short film Radfahrer (2008).

The 27 minute documentary unveils the espionage techniques employed by GDR photographer Harald Hauswald and demonstrates how even community institutions like the church had a role to play in the undercover surveillance methods used to monitor East Germany. The film is followed by a Q&A with Hauswald and fellow photographer Maurice Weiss.

The screening is timely given today’s date was, up until 1989, used to mark the annual celebrations of the birth of the GDR.Quote_transparent
