In the latter half of the 20th century performance art provided an important medium used to explore female identity beyond its cookie-cutter portrayal in mass media.
Re.Act.Feminism, curated by Bettina Knaup and Beatrice E. Stammer, features photographs, films, sculptures, texts, drawings and installations by 24 international artists from several generations including VALIE EXPORT, Lorraine O’Grady, Sanja Ivekovic, Yoko Ono, Orlan and others. The exhibition is accompanied by a program of live performances and a vast on-site video archive of past performances that provide insight into the diversity of feminist interpretation and expression.
