While there were a handful of preview events about town in the days leading up to Wednesday, yesterday signaled the official start of Berlin Fashion Week. And so begins five mad, dizzying days of catwalk shows, events, trade fairs, performances and showcases.
Nowhere was the frenzy of Berlin Fashion Week more palpable than within the Original Sin Saloon, the events locale at the Bread & Butter trade fair. Decked out in a kitschy beer-tent-meets-the-wild-west décor (replete with burning guitars, decorated lebkuchen and a show from local cowboys The BossHoss), the extravagant do gathered together over 2,500 designers, media and stalwarts of Berlin’s creative and nightlife scenes, giving solid props to this city’s vibrant cultural industries and setting the tone for the next five days’ action.
