This is not another magazine, this is A Magazine or the magazine when it comes to fashionable fashion magazines. Every single issue is curated by another notable fashion designer more precisely one of those we love and seek to know more about …

And indeed A Magazine ... lets us sneak peak into the heads of our favourites at least for the duration of a magazine -gathering inspiration, thoughts and outlines of names like Yohji Yamamoto, Veronique Branquinho or Haider Ackermann.

The first one to be asked for this project was the master of mysterious – at least when it comes to the person itself – Martin Margiela. No wonder that this issue launched in June 2004 is already out of stock. Published by Modenatie twice a year, all designers that have been participating so far are somehow linked or inspired by the Belgian fashion cosmos.

Same with Kris van Assche, director of Dior Homme and his own signature line, who is in charge for the current issue. He was invited as guest curator for A Magazine amidst the preparations for his first Dior Homme catwalk show in January 2008 and the preparations of his own label’s men’s and women’s lines.

Van Assche’s intention was it to work with people he felt connected to. He didn’t want to opt for big names only, but rather for the people that fascinate him or those whose creative input had inspired and enriched him in the past. - The various collaborations with photographers, authors, stylists and models in A Magazine #7 are the result of Van Assche’s search for true human contact within the creative process.

Fine examples are the contributions of Wiglius De Bie and Gaëtan Bernard, both close acquaintances of him. He asked Wiglius to portray his team, at Kris Van Assche and at Dior Homme. Gaëtan Bernard’s reticent black and white portraits are silent witnesses to the fittings for the first Dior Homme collection. In these images Van Assche resembles a dancer subtly leading his model in a shrewd game of seeking contact and taking distance.

More participants amongst othert: Sarah Moon, Parkeharisson, Mauricio Nardi, Jeff Burton.

A Magazine #8 – planned for fall 2008 – will be curated by Ricardo Tisci (Givenchy)

A Magazine is availabe at Pro Qm
